Please note: The only person(s) who can cancel a game are Molly and/or Kay. Games are cancelled for the following reasons: unavailable field, unavailable refs, weather EMERGENCIES. We play in rain, snow, etc. We do not play if the weather includes thunder and lightening. The Referee calls these games on the field, so if unsure, show up to play. Only the ref can call these games due to weather.
Currently, our league has imposed a fine to any team that does not send a representative to the quarterly league meetings. The fine is imposed not as a money-maker for the league, but as an incentive for all teams to attend the meetings. When a team rep misses a meeting, she/he does not know procedures and deadlines for important materials. Our league has rules, by-laws and procedures. Please follow them.
Registering, Transferring, and Dropping Players
Players registering for the league must have a completed and signed registration form submitted to the Registrar, Année Smith, in duplicate. Write on top of the duplicate "New" or "Returning". They also must submit 1 color wallet-size head shot photo with the players name written on back of the photo, 1 photo copy of a photo ID (license, passport, etc), and a $30 registration fee. Players playing in the fall only need to do this in the fall, not in the spring, even when transferring teams. New players joining in the spring must register. Players wishing to transfer to a new team must have their old team's signature to show that it has been notified of the change. The fee to transfer teams is $10 per player. Teams wishing to drop players from their roster submit a "Drop" list to the Registrar and must pay a fee of $10 per player.
Full Information on Registration Procedure
A protest must be sent, in writing, to the Vice-President and postmarked within 72 hours of game time. The protest fee must accompany a written protest. If grounds for protest exist before the game begins, such as field conditions, nets, and player registrations, then the protest must be registered with the referee, in writing, before the game begins. If a reason for a protest should arise during the game, the referees must be notified before the end of the game, and confirmed in writing at the end of the game. The Vice-President will obtain written statements from both coaches and all referees and determine the outcome of the protest, unless involved in the protest. If the Vice-President is involved, the President shall appoint an unbiased committee to decide the protest. The Vice-President, or Protest Committee, will present6 the protest and decision at the next League meeting. The decision may be appealed to the League Board, which requires the presence of a quorum in order to vote.
Team Representative: This person finds a field and gets permission to use it on home game days, collects registration dues ($22 per player) and league dues ($60 per team), registration forms and photos of each player. Once these items are collected they must be submitted to the league registrar by the weekly deadline so that you can have your pass ready for the next game. Players cannot play without a pass. A team rep must also attend the quarterly league meetings. If a rep from your team does not attend these meetings the team is fined. The reps also do whatever is necessary to keep your team running as smoothly as possible. Please lend a hand to your team rep. Ask if there is one thing you can do to help out once in awhile. The effort will be greatly appreciated. Team Rep emails can be found on our Teams page.
League President: The president is in charge of all aspects of running the league. She sets the league schedule and agendas for the league meetings. She makes sure that the insurance information and other RISA information gets to the team reps. She presides over committee meetings and comes up with new ideas for promoting and expanding the league. Another responsibility is attending monthly RISA meetings (if she misses a meeting the league is fined). The president also ensures that all teams and games adhere to our league by-laws and handles complaints from teams. This position is vital to keep everything running smoothly. Our current president has presided for 5 years and has done a great job of expanding the league and keeping us from being a ragtag group of players playing pick-up.
League Vice-President: The vice-president is repsonsible for getting the referee requirements to the RISA referee assignor and taking care of all our complaints about the referees. He also keeps track of all the game scores and team standings. The VP attends the mo nthly RISA meetings with, or in place of, the league president.
League Registrar: This person is reponsible for accepting payment, registration forms, an dphotos from the team reps and then getting this material to the RI Soccer association registrar who actually makes the passes. Our registrar then has to return to the State Registrar to pick up finished passes and either mail them to the team (if ther eis time) or have the team rep come and pick them up. The registrar has a lot of running around to do and handles the last minute, late night calls from team reps that want passes for the next game. Our current registrar has been extremely flexible for the team reps and it is greatly appreciated.
League Treasurer: This person is responsible for paying RISA fees, other invoices and depositing fees paid to the league.
League Secretary: This person is responsible for attending all league meetings and keeping the minutes. She also updates the rep list and team email list.
Travel Team Director : This person is responsible for organizing players throughout the league to go to tournaments, arranging practices, registering the team for tournaments, making travel arrangements. If you are interested in joining the travel team email travelteam@riwsl.org.
Webmaster: This person is responsible for keeping the website up-to-date with league news, team information and contacts, scores and standings. Email webmaster@riwsl.org with any ideas, suggestions, corrections, or helpful hints.
